There are three main use cases. Based on the end-user requirements, the UCs were carefully designed to tackle the most demanding challenges from the advanced AR, VR and Holographic-based applications, which ultimately allow to validate, demonstrate and showcase the edge/cloud computing innovations of the CHARITY project.
Real-time Holographic applications
Holograms are emerging as the media of the future, with many associated future networked applications, highly interactive in nature and involving ultra-fast feedback loops. Will provide challenges in terms of processing, bandwidth, low latency over high distance and high-precision synchronization.
Immersive virtual training
VR Medical Training
Training and simulation demand absolute fidelity to achieve full immersion to the virtual environment. The main challenge is to lower the CPU/GPU overhead while reducing data transfer and supporting a large number of concurrent users.
Mixed Reality interactive application
Manned-unmanned Operations Trainer
Mixed reality combines Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality to provide the interface that connects humans to the cyber-physical settings. The main challenges are: fast world simulation, very low network communication latency and coherency of the simulation across geographically distributed participants.
